Learn About The KASH Box

KASH box

People are the key to business success!

Human Capital ManagementHuman Capital Management

The KASH box defines two activities—the way we accomplish, or don’t accomplish our goals and the way we hire other people. It describes the knowing and doing gap. You will notice that Knowledge and Skills are on the left hand side of the box and Attitudes and Habits are on the right hand side. The divide between the two halves of the box is the gap. Here is how they relate...

The way we accomplish, or don’t accomplish our goals...

Developing TalentDeveloping Talent

I have a friend that has been talking to me for years about starting his own business. He has spent countless hours researching various opportunities from buying a bar and grill to opening a franchise operation. He has great KNOWLEDGE, and he has prepared himself with the appropriate SKILLS to be successful. However, he has never pulled the trigger, never accomplished the goals that he continually talks about.

It is his ATTITUDES and HABITS that have held him back all of these years. While he has great knowledge and skills, he doesn’t have the attitude, or the habits of thought, that will allow him to accomplish what he says he wants to.

This is the knowing and doing gap.

We know what we want to do, or have to do to be successful. The fact is that we haven’t taken the time to develop our attitudes to actually do the things that we need to do. We find ways around it…our attitudes about work, relationships, discipline, recognition, recreation, etc. all drive our ability to accomplish what we set out to do.

Let me give you an example that most people can relate to. Are you at your ideal weight? Do you eat a balanced diet? Do you exercise to the point of perspiring for 45 minutes at least three times per week? Do you drink 8 glasses of water a day? Do you smoke? Do you drink to excess?

If you answered yes to the first four questions and no to the last two, congratulations! You have crossed the knowing and doing gap. If not, you know what the gap is all too well. The fact is that we all know what we should be doing to be healthy. Eat right, get enough sleep, exercise regularly, don’t smoke or drink to excess…fairly simple and straightforward.

What keeps us from doing what we need to do? It is our attitudes and our habits.

How many times have you thought about a new and perhaps profitable idea and have let your attitudes get in the way?

The good news is that you can change your attitudes. Working with Scholz and Associates changes attitudes in a positive manner for both companies and individuals. Our proven abilities to affect attitudes and behaviors improve your results!

Assessing TalentAssessing Talent

Think about the last time you hired someone. What was the process like? If you are like most people who hire others, you rely on Knowledge and Skills (résumé’s and references) and on an interview or set of interviews (gut feel). We look for what someone has done or learned before. Knowledge and skills are fairly easy to test. Most companies never check references. If they do, the information may be very limited.

We then look at candidates through the lens of our own biases. Do we like the person? Do we think that the person will be a fit? How is our gut feel for the person?

How did you learn to interview? Have you ever been trained to interview, or are you operating on your own experience? How do you know what to ask? How can you get beyond your gut feel? Do you hire people that you like? How is your effectiveness in hiring?

We hire based on Knowledge and Skills.
We fire because of Attitudes and Habits!

Turnover costs you time, money and lost productivity, and is a drain on management resources. Scholz and Associates will work with you to improve your interviewing and hiring processes and help you retain the right people.
